It’s already March 2025 and time just seems to be flying by. And while time is going, it seems like everyone has a piece of advice on who and what we should and should not trust, who is lying, what is real and good for us, what the better way is, faster way is etc... and in a world with so many opinions and options, great uncertainty exists; sometimes the pressure to make a decision on who or what to trust can be overwhelming.
But, what if you found out that trusting God was a sure thing and you never needed to look further for someone to guide your decision making? I mean, wouldn’t you want to explore what it feels like to dive into your own personal relationship with your Creator and the one who loves you beyond measure- more than anybody else ever could?
The topic of trust is huge! Our life’s choices revolve around it; rewards come with placing our trust appropriately and regret often follows placing our trust inappropriately. Further, I’d say thinking of where to place our trust is paramount as It’s impossible for us to live without placing our trust in someone or something.
Keep reading and we’ll uncover the basics behind the phrase ‘Trust God.’, by looking at what trust is, who God is and reasons why it’s really beneficial for us to trust him. At the end of this blog you should be more informed about trusting God and excited to continue, begin, or think through the possibilities of your journey trusting God today.
What is trust?
Let’s go over the definitions of ‘trust’ as a noun and verb– sourced from Merriam-Webster dictionary:
Trust (Noun)
1. Assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something
- one in which confidence is placed
2. Dependence on something future or contingent: Hope
3. Care, Custody
e.g. The child committed to her trust
- A charge or duty imposed in faith or confidence or as a condition of some relationship
- something committed or entrusted to one to be used or cared for in the interest of another.
Trust (Verb)
[trusted; trusting; trusts]
1. To rely on the truthfulness or accuracy of: Believe
- To place confidence in: rely on
- To hope or expect confidently
2. To commit or place in one’s care or keeping: Entrust
- To permit to stay or go or do something without fear or misgiving
So.... what is the need for trust? As humans, we place trust in people and things as a means to carry out our daily lives trying to mitigate the element of unpleasant surprises. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not we do not go a day of our lives without incorporating trust. Not one.
Most of the time we give our trust without any uncertainty or doubt in mind. For example:
- We trust that the chair we choose to sit on will hold us without wondering if we will fall or who the manufacturer is.
- We trust that a packaged food product we purchase is edible although we weren’t there to see it packaged.
- In America, we trust that Thanksgiving will be observed on the 4th Thursday of every November and many make preparations because that time was declared a holiday and we don’t sit around guessing if the observance will change.
- When we need to vent and have loved ones or support groups in our lives, we trust that someone will listen, expecting them to care.
The spotlight in those examples is we trust without thinking twice about it; we sit down, we eat, we prepare, we make the call.
Who is God and why should we trust Him?
“Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.” Isaiah 43:10-11 KJV
God is the Creator of you and I, the Creator of the universe, the one who is Love and loves us beyond measure. God is eternal, God is good, God is the giver of life and so much more. The Bible is an excellent resource where the LORD tells us about His characteristics and His ways through spotlighting God’s character and who He desires to be to us.
When we trust God, we’re making the safest choice. It’s a choice to collaborate with the Almighty and allow Him to guide us daily and transform us into who we were destined to be. Whenever I reflect on trusting God, my heart becomes so glad because I’m happy to know He is looking out for me and guiding me. There is no wrong turn when we put our trust in Him.
When we put our trust in God we are insured by Him 100 percent. Not everything in this life is easy and sometimes we will go through challenging times, but when we trust God, we’ll never have to go through it alone. Did you read that? Never.
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee” Isaiah 43:2
Trusting God in our life’s journey is a daily exercise and experience. Ultimately, it is a choice that the LORD advocates that can only be made by you. However, when we choose to trust God we create opportunities for Him to show up; our relationship grows with Him because of our dependence on Him being our God.
Benefits of Trusting God:
It helps to be reminded that we can trust God, and even more… He want us to! Let’s take a look at a few benefits below accompanied with scriptures that you can meditate on today to encourage yourself and share with someone else that could benefit from the knowledge or inspiration.
Wisdom
Trusting God puts an end to all foolishness. God desires for us to be wise and wisdom from God has the ability to transform your life, enhance your relationships, finances, health, thoughts, ideas and current situation. The wisdom God gives will guide you in your reactions and speech, give you direction, promotion and so much more.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” James 1:5 KJV
Peace
Peace is priceless and when we choose to trust God, He gives it to us for free. There is a resting of the mind the LORD distributes that I promise you could not find or buy anywhere; it’s peace of mind that causes those on the outside to wonder how you're able to continue on… Even in the middle of your storm, God will give you peace.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 KJV
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:’ Isaiah 26:3-4 KJV
No Fear
Fear what? Fear who? No thing, no one. When we decide to put our trust in God there’s no need to fear. As a matter of fact throughout scripture God reasons with us to not be afraid. Guess why? Because He’s involved. And when God has you in His care, you can be excited and rest assured knowing you are in the best hands.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
“Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? Ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.” Isaiah 44:8 KJV
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest” Joshua 1:9 KJV
True Faithfulness
“being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” Philippians 1:6 KJV
Say good bye to the days when you put your trust in unfaithful and unreliable people. Good riddance! Adios. Once you decide to trust God you never have to question His faithfulness or worry that He’ll leave you. Just thinking of it leaves me in awe of who He is to me….(had a moment)... But, to continue.. God is so good and so faithful that His character takes the guess work of trusting Him away; He’s not going to leave you.
“Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself” Isaiah 44:24 KJV
“ and even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?” Isaiah 46:4-5 KJV
(FYI ‘hoar hairs’ is gray or white hairs.)
